The Big Bang for Dummies

Similarly to myself, people believe that they do not know and will not be able to understand what the Big Bang Theory is. They simply believe that it is something that only "smart people" such as physicists and astronomers etc.. will understand. However I will further expand your knowledge with information that you will understand.

The Big Bang was not an explosion
The Big Bang was an expansion and stretch.

Before the Big Bang:

  • What there was before the Big Bang is unknown and is not relevant in the information which scientists are interested in today.
  • Scientists believe that the Big Bang was the beginning and that is all
  • How the Big Bang occurred is also unknown. Perhaps it was a miracle of an unknown authority referred to as god.
The "BANG"
  • The Universe was VERY VERY tiny
  • It began to expand and stretch
  • Then result of this stretch and expansion was a lot of heat. A LOT of heat.
  • The universe began to stretch wide and atoms began to form
  • The universe just kept expanding
Timeline and information

  • 10-35 seconds
    • The Universe began to expand very rapidly
  • 10-32 seconds
    • The energy in the universe turned into particles which only existed for a short period of time because the heat kept making them destroy one another.
    • There were TINY particles called gluons. These gluons would form together to make quarks.
    • The Quarks would get exited because of the heat and would destroy themselves creating gluons.
    • Matter would kill the antimatter

  • 10-9 seconds
      • There are four fundamental forces which act on us in the universe
        • Strong Force
        • Electromagnetic Force
        • Weak Force
        • Gravity
    (http://nimeshpokhrel.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/4forcesnature.gif)
      • At this point in time, there was only one force, however this one force began to slowly divide and create different forces
      • At this point in time the Universe had expanded to around a billion KM in diameter
      • The temperature began to cool down
      • Since the temperature was cooling down, the Quarks being born were no longer turning into energy anymore. But instead were turning into things called Hedrons and Leptons
    • 1 seconds
      • The Hedrons and Leptons along with some other particles began to form protons and neutrons
      • This led to the creation of the very first atom- Hydrogen
      • At 1s the universe was 100 billion Km in diameter.
      • All 4 fundamental forces were created and existant
    • 200 seconds
      • The universe was cooled and settled
      • More atoms were beginning to form
      • There were no stars however even if there had been the hydrogen would not have let light pass through
      • Hydrogen began to clump up together after a lot of time.
        • this resulted in the making of galaxies and stars
    • 300,.000 seconds
      • Radiation turned the gas in the universe into plasma and that let visible light pass which we see today.
